Kent, Ohio – The Kent State University Orchestra and Combined Choirs join together to conclude the School of Music’s 2018-19 concert season on Sun., May 5 at 3 p.m. in Cartwright Hall’s University Auditorium. This annual audience favorite brings together nearly 200 musicians from the Kent State University Orchestra, Kent Chorus, Kent Chorale, and Men’s and Women’s Choruses. Conductors include Dr. Jungho Kim, Director of Orchestra, and Dr. Scott MacPherson, Director of Choral Studies.

Kent, Ohio – The Kent Keyboard Series concludes its dynamic 2018-2019 season with pianist Chu-Fang Huang, Steinway Artist, and internationally renowned soloist, on Sun., April 14 at 5 p.m. in Ludwig Recital Hall. In addition to performing solo piano works, she will be joined by Kent State faculty members Dr. Jerry Wong and Dr. Donna Lee for works for multiple hands. Kent State’s Ludwig Recital Hall is at 1325 Theatre Drive in the Center for the Performing Arts on the Kent Campus.

Kent, Ohio – The Kent State University Orchestra Society and the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University will present the 44th annual Evening with the Orchestra on Sat., April 13 in the Ballroom of the Kent State University Student Center.  This annual fundraising gala raises thousands of dollars in scholarships every year for the orchestra’s student musicians.

On Sun., Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. the Kent State University Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Jungho Kim, presents their fourth subscription series concert of the season featuring the winners of the Annual Concerto Competition. In addition to works by Mozart and Ravel performed by the soloists, the program also includes well-known and popular compositions by Glinka, Bizet and Rimsky-Korsakov. They perform in University Auditorium in Cartwright Hall.

 

Kent, Ohio – On Sun., March 3 at 5 p.m. Kent State’s outstanding string and piano faculty Ensemble-in-Residence, the Verve Chamber Players, present an early evening performance in Ludwig Recital Hall. They will be joined by the School of Music’s exceptional graduate student quartet, the Efferus String Quartet. Ludwig Recital Hall is at 1325 Theatre Drive in the Center for the Performing Arts. Ample free and handicap accessible parking is available.

Recently we sat down with pianist, Steinway Artist and Kent State University faculty member Jerry Wong to talk about his upcoming Kent Keyboard Series concert on Sun., Jan. 27, at 5 p.m. Titled “Franz and Franz,” the performance will feature collaborative and solo works by Liszt and Schubert.

Soon, students will start arriving from around the world for the the Kent Blossom Music Festival's 50th anniversary season. Running 5 weeks, July 1 - Aug. 5, the faculty of the festival includes members of The Cleveland Orchestra, Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and guest artists. Students will work weekly with these faculty members in private lessons, chamber music coaching and orchestra classes.
