Stark Campus, Jack McWhorter Awarded OAEA Distinguished Organization in Art Education
The Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA) named the Kent State University Stark Campus as one of the Distinguished Buisinesses/Organizations for Art Education in 2018. The award was presented to Professor Jack McWhorter, who teaches painting and drawing at the Stark campus, at the OAEA conference on November 9, 2018. McWhorter and the Stark campus were recognized for their diligent and continual work in hosting the regional Scholastic Art Awards. As the sponsor for the Northeast Central Ohio Region, Kent Stark has supported hundreds of art teachers, and thousands of students from Summit, Stark, Wayne, Medina, Portage, Tuscarawas and Holmes counties over decades. They also subsidized student entries for the competition, which has exceeded $100,000 in contributions over the years. Additionally, the campus hosts free high school and middle school career days for the arts and has supported many regional art educators in providing exhibition space. Congratulations to Jack McWhorter and all of our faculty and staff at Kent Stark!
